[SuSE Linux] Re: [SuSE Beta] no egcs??? how about libc6?

I'm very eager to get my hands on SuSE-6.0 since the FAQ claims it will be egcs/libc6 based. I had also implicitly assumed it would be kernel 2.1/2.2 based.
Not 2.1 based but with a lot of support for 2.1; sorry as long as 2.2 isn't there we won't be able to put it on a CD :-)
To my chagrin, I downloaded the boot floppy and was able to discern that it was using kernel 2.0.36 build by the same old gcc2.7.2.1 and I'm guessing libc5 though I couldn't discern that for certain.
The boot floppy uses 2.0.36 right; as a 2.0 Kernel it needs to be compiled with 2.7.2.x since no one wants to fix the kernel ('cause most of the kernel folks don't trust egcs...) Right after the installation, you'll be prompted to install the kernel to run your system with: and then you have the choice between 2.0.36 and 2.1.13x. All kernels (and kernel modules) are compiled using gcc-2.7.2.x. But: full egcs is included. The list of programs that we had to use gcc-2.7.2.x for is rather short (e.g. tetex which still throws an internal error in egcs).
Anyway, whats going on? This is 6.0 right, the big jump? not just 5.4?
I was assuming that the 6.0 beta would be a complete libc6/egcs/ kernel 2.1.latest bleeding edge system. Instead it looks like an incremental upgrade from 5.3.
It is (as always) meant as a productive system. So it needs to have support for both libc's and for 2.0 kernels as well.

So this means??? a) /usr/bin/gcc is 2.7? b) /lib/libc.so.6 does or does not exist? (is it still the "secondary" libc sitting in /usr/i486-linux-libc6, or is it "primary"?) c) related to above, if I compile my hello.c program with the system (/usr/bin/gcc) gcc, will it by default link against libc.so.5 or libc.so.6? d) if egcs isn't the system compiler (supposing it lives in /usr/local/bin) then what libc will it link programs with by default. e) will most rpm's be rebuilt with egcs and libc6 if possible, or will the majority of shipped rpm's just be libc5 based and "compatable"? Your choice
b) /lib/libc.so.6 does or does not exist? (is it still the "secondary" libc sitting in /usr/i486-linux-libc6, or is it "primary"?)
Of course /lib/libc.so.6 exists

libc6
