Fwd: [opensuse] Any samba guru around?

Hi Ciro,
I'm no Samba Guru...
I use Aamba PDC with an openLDAP backend, so it would work. Windows7 needs a two registry tweaks. http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7
You should also take a look at samba4. According to its specs, it mimics WinS2003/2008 AD, in case you find any use for it... According to their website the most important features are implemented.
Regards, Rui

Sounds nice guys, I have another related question, what about ctdb?. I know it's used for fileserver clustering, but can I have a HA PDC using that feature?. I've seen from configuration examples that with ctdb all the cluster members use the same netbios name, I wonder how does this affect PDC functions... I'll subscribe to SAMBA maillist, I was trying to avoid filling my email inbox with yet another maillist content :D Regards, -- Ciro Iriarte http://cyruspy.wordpress.com -- -- Ciro Iriarte http://cyruspy.wordpress.com -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Err.. 'ctdb', that's definitely a samba list issue. But, adding the samba list is a good thing when you are working samba issues. I think I subscribed in '01 and I've never unsubscribed. When a new OS is released, I can just scan the headers to pick up the patches/work-arounds required, etc.. When you have specific samba questions -- there is no place better. Sorry no help on the 'ctdb' issue - whatever type db that is ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. ctdb doesn't cover the DC functionality. It is important to NOT use ctdb on a domain controller at all. Standalone server and domain member are ok. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

See, we have a good part of the samba.org list right here :p As we do the kde.org list (Will, et. al.), and developers from just about every other major project out there. That -- by far -- is one of the best strengths of the suse list. Most other distros just don't have the depth of knowledge that this list enjoys :-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Well, got the same feedback from Rolf Schmidt, I guess the only available solution with two machines is to run two instances of samba in each, one for DC and one with CTDB or virtualiaze and have one domU for DC and another for CTDB... To correct myself I have to add: You might try to run all nodes of a cluster as PDC. But you have to ensure to keep the passdb backend fully serialized. Either by using a LDAP server or tdbsam with the TDBs on a ctdb covered path. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

So it might work at last?, "fully serialized rules" out multimaster-ldap?, I mean, all the cluster members should talk to the same instance of LDAP directory?
