[opensuse] 11.3 wifi card
Would someone please offer me knowledge about wifi cards or USB devices that are KNOWN to work under 11.3. The D-Link DWA-130 is supposed to work according to multiple sites, but they offer conflicting setups. If someone has actual successful experience, I would like to hear about it. from what i can find out there are no native drivers available according to: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_part.php?brandname=D-Link however make sure you have the latest kernel available. the libertas driver (http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/libertas) supports marvel chipsets but i don't think the one on your usb is supported. i've had luck with dlink wlan card that look on the outside just like yours but in your case i think you have to use ndiswrapper. there is a good thread that might interest you at the forums: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/wireless/410502-d-link-dwa-... from what i can see ndis doesn't work too well with that too . you might want to have a look at rt3070 too. can you post output of lsusb and dmesg|less? also look at this : http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/wireless/391535-my-wireless... a good guide to help you in you situation. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

based on that i googled your device id and i came up with this: http://wiki.debian.org/rtl819x particularly the r8192s_usb driver. according to the following lines(outputs of modinfo r8192s_usb) in that page i think it works(or has worked) for someone. USB: 07D1:3300 D-Link System DWA-130 802.11n Wireless N Adapter(rev.E) [Realtek RTL8192SU] USB: 07D1:3302 D-Link System DWA-130 802.11n Wireless N Adapter(rev.C2) [Realtek RTL8192SU] and according to this thread : http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-852629.html?sid=7e129d1ab279257e09389fd... you may run into firmware issues . try it out and see if it works. i suggest self-compiling kernel 2.6.36 or rc2 of 2.6.37 and it should let you choose a bunch of wireless drivers, then you can select as many as you want and see if any of them work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the reply. I had already found that link. Directions for getting it to work were conflicting and confusing. The reason I want this is that my desktop has to go into a room without internet access. I'm wondeing if it might now be easier to hard wire eth0 into a bridge, though I have no experience with doing that. TIA,
Jim When I was still on 11.1, I bought a USB dongle ZyXEL G-220 v2, and worked from the get go.
Yast found it as soon as I plugged it in, loaded the driver and I was off and running in no time. Before that, I bought a "high priced" D-Link USB one from Radio Shack and was - supposed - to work with Linux - BUT - could NEVER get it to work. So my gut feeling is that - all - name branded stuff is NOT always better. Not a direct answer, but I just put a PCI wireless card into my 11.2 workstation that works fine. It's a Longshine 8031G/2/3 containing an RTL 8185 chipset driven by the rtl8180 driver.
