Hello Lists, Would like suggestions for server upgrade. Currently have SuSE 7.2 on a dedicated Celeron 466, 256 MB, 40 GB HDD drive partitioned into: / - 19.5 G /homes - 5 G /public - 15 G /swap - 500 MB I am wanting to upgrade to SuSE 7.3 keeping the 40G drive and adding a 30G drive I have lying around. These are IDE/ATAPI drives. It is easy to preserver the /public and /swap as I plan to do a from scratch of 7.3 Pro. My dilemma is that I have mysql running impor- tant database files under /var/lib/mysql/iboms that I need to preserve and keep permissions. This is also a samba server for several users. Some of these are windows users and need to be kept after upgrade. This is a home net, but the database app using mysql is sorta mission critical. My backup solution will be a newly installed Bru PE 17.0. Prior to this I had used Perfect Backup 6.2 (had 7.0 but it got flaky) Any suggestions on partitioning, preserving file permissions, making sure I don't hose my mysql files and how others would backup and pursue this task are greatly appreciated. I have used linux now for about 2 yrs, I am a physician by training and not a trained computer professional, but feel fairly comfortable with hardware/software/linux. Regards, Keith B.
