Hi,
I am pretty new to linux. So please treat me as pretty novice, please
forgive me about that.
I have installed SuSE 10.1 on Intel D915GUX mother board with Pentuim4 EM64T
processor. My monitor is Samtron 15inch model 56V.
The X11 graphics is broken whenever I try to have a resolution higher than
800x600. I tried with different configuration but none did help.
I have the xorg.conf.install file as follows:

I have the xorg.conf.install file as follows:
[pruned]
# Screen Section for module X support # ------------------------------------- Section "Screen" SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "800x600" EndSubSection
If you look at the info you supplied, the highest resolution which could be set on the monitor with its current configuration is 800 x 600 (see above).
My monitor spec is as follows:
-------------- start paste --------------------------
*15"(13.8" Viewable) *0.24mm(H) Dot Pitch *1024x768@68 Maximum Resolution *Plug & Play *Mac & PC Compatibility
[pruned] To get it working correctly (I hope! :-) ) go to Yast Control Centre/Hardware/Graphic Card and Monitor/Monitor-<Change>. Select the VESA as the monitor type and then select (in the righthand 'menu') 1024x768@68 . Exit and you will be asked to TEST this new configuration - do the test and if all works OK, save the new configuration. (Do not fiddle with the vertical and horizontal frequencies - just select 1024x768@68 and leave all else alone.) Regards,
I have a MAG Innovision monitor and had no trouble in configuring it upto and including SuSE v10.0. Along came v10.1 and I cannot configure it by using all the correct ways of configuring a monitor- ie, using the Horizontal and Vertical frequencies. The only way I can get it work properly is to select the Vesa monitor and the default settings after selecting the resolution I want. Doing anything else "breaks" the monitor and all I end up looking at is garbage. Re the 68Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate. What is shown here, which is what the specs for that monitor are as given by Bikram? What is 'all the correct ways'? In my experience, Sax2 or Yast2 didn't get the exact monitor's information. BTW< I'm using SUSE 10.0, though. Sax doesn't work properly with ATI driver. So, I edited xorg.conf with Emacs, and haven't got any problem. Basil> Re the 68Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate. So, I wrote 'generally speaking'. That is, as you might know, there doesn't exist the refresh rate for LCD. But, LCD maker optimizes the LCD display's control circuit seeing LCD display as a CRT display with 60Hz refresh rate. As you point out, the spec is shown as follows; *1024x768@68 Maximum Resolution At this point, I wondering.... That is, for LCD display, we do must avoid the too high refresh rate. Where are you getting the idea that this is an LCD monitor :-) ? The Samtron V56 is a CRT monitor.
