[opensuse] good SATA raid card for suse?
can anyone recommend an SATA raid card they have had good experiences with in the latest suse? i would like one that can do RAID 0, 1, and 5 options, and preferably one that can do 4 or more drive connections. my current motherboard has an onboard intel sata raid chipset, kernel 2.6 wont use this type of raid array. cheers, jonathan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've recently researched this. Personally, I'd buy a 4-port SATA II card using the SiL 3124 (not 3114) chipset. The 3114 is, if I recall, SATA I and in fact not as well supported. Furthermore, just do software raid with the linux kernel - it is almost certainly more reliable and just as fast as hardware raid, for sata drives, for any price point I'm willing to entertain. My personal plan is to use an Addonics or a Tekram. I seem to recall that newegg has the Tekram I'm thinking of for a very reasonable price. If you motherboard can do sata at all, just leave well enough alone - the Intel stuff should be fairly well supported and, again, just use software raid. -- Carpe diem - Seize the day.
