Bodo, will 6.0 include some backwards compatibility support for the apps linked with libc5 ? On Fri, 20 Nov 1998, Bodo Bauer wrote:

* glibc
The big one.
* egcs 1.1
Will all packages be compiled with this? Will default be Pentium?
Kernel
2.0.36 is out now. And if 6.0 is out by January, it's propable that 2.2 is out. If it is, please include it, even only as a secondary choice (if you're worried about how stable it is).
New/updated Packages
I hope it's just a sample of all updates? For example did I read that ghostscript now has better support for HP 1100, and I just bought one...

I've just bought a HP1100. It understands PCL5. In YaST you can configure the printer to laserjet 4, 4l, plus eller 4dith. What is the best option for this printer? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hy Bodo, SuSE is really a great product. (I'm a late-time installer). I only have one question to ask for the 6.00 version: would it be possible to provide some of the rescue disks-type image disks with the appropriate instructions for setting up the disks? I say this because I have personally found the "tomsbtrt" (Linux on one disk) a very effective tool for recoveries. There are other "small linuxes" that can be very helpful at times of need, and are not dependant on having a working system on the H/D. While this stuff can be gotten via the Net, I think if would be helpful for all newcomers to Linux if it were included with the distribution. Keep up the good work, Luciano Dondero - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Good idea. And by the way, it would be nice to see qmail instead of sendmail : much easier to understand/configure/maintain for "newbies" as the old and big sendmail. Well, I'm probably dreaming, but why not ? Anyway, you _got_ to supply a rpm with qmail in Suse6.0 (now that you have the right to do that : license change). Why not ? I, personally, think that's a _horrible_idea, but I know it won't happen so I don't worry. If qmail were included it should be included like smail is, as an additional option to the mail configuration, and certainly not as a substitute for sendmail, which is sort of the standard. Besides, why do you worry about sendmail configuration for new users, when YaST will probably, for_most_ newbies, set it up fine and painlessly through automation? -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Yes, I agree. Qmail should supplement and NOT replace Sendmail. QUESTION: Will SuSE 6.0 use the Linux 2.2 kernal?

Guess what breaks when you remove package DB (BSD database)? perl, lpd, man, susehilfe, the list goes on. . . How about yast running a dependency check before removing packages like RedHat does? Granted, the lesson learned is not so dramatic if I'm warned that I'm about to break a bunch of stuff instead of reading a screenful of errors after the fact.
