If I remember the standard kernel for 7.2 don't use all of the APM features that a labtop needs. You may need to enable these features and recompile your kernel.
I'd buy that, but I'm still using 7.1 (kernel 2.2.xx something, not 2.4), AND I can switch between KDE1 and KDE2 without rebooting, and KDE1 suspends just fine but KDE2 doesn't. What is it about the desktop that's different between KDE1 and KDE2 for APM? Thanks for the reply. Jim
I sent the message below last week, but got zero replies. Does that mean nobody tries to suspend their laptop with KDE2....?
Anybody got a clue? Jim ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 10:04:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Jim Cunning <jcunning@cts.com> To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] KDE2 on 7.1 doesn't suspend laptop, but KDE1 does
On my IBM 600E I can't get KDE2 to properly suspend when I close the cover. Instead the screen goes blank for 20 seconds, then comes back with a beep and the system continues to run full speed, draining the battery. KDE1 works fine.
Also, "apmsleep -S +0:01" on KDE2 comes back after 20 seconds the same way. On KDE1, it does suspend (and spin down the HDD), but doesn't wake up after 1 minute. I can press a key to wake up the system.
Anyway, is there something w/KDE2 that I need to configure? I didn't do anything with KDE1--it just worked. I looked at the laptop tab on KDE System Control with KDE2 and nothing looked unreasonable.
Thanks, Jim Cunning
