Re: [SLE] Spamassassin + Amavisd

Also, I didn't see anything concerning spamassassin in amavis.conf. Is this something to be introduced in newer versions?
I would be quite happy to be able to run everything through amavis directly. I don' t think that the loss in specifics by running all spam through the same configuration will matter that much. If it did, then I would have to use /etc/passwd authentication to keep the $HOME directories around!
I'm running spamassassin 2.55-48 and amavis-new 20030616-0. Amavis-new comes from the "choeger" people directory. It might well be in the general updates directory by now. I can't remember where I got spamassassin. It's in the suse/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/ directory but I have a feeling I came to it via the spamassassin web site. The draht people directory has a whole lot of spamassassins but they all look older versions for older versions of SuSE. All I can say is that they work fine here. Amavis.conf has a whole section devoted to spamassassin, and both packages come with SuSE-fied help docs. Yast2's sysconfig editor has entries for both under /network/mail, as does the run level editor, so getting them going is a snap really after setting the config files (which can take a while because the amavis one is huge). :)

Can you check something for me. You are NOT using the daemonized amavis (amavisd) ? It looks as though you are definitely not using amavis from the released tree. But the version of spamassassin should be a small matter, even 2.4x works with amavis. Thanks.

Well ps aux | grep amavis yields: vscan 9865 0.0 3.6 30756 19052 ? S Oct11 0:00 /usr/bin/perl -T /usr/sbin/amavisd vscan 30589 0.0 4.3 31132 22356 ? S 15:20 0:01 /usr/bin/perl -T /usr/sbin/amavisd vscan 31675 0.0 4.4 31348 22756 ? S 16:20 0:01 /usr/bin/perl -T /usr/sbin/amavisd root 326 0.0 0.1 3544 572 pts/1 S 17:23 0:00 grep amavis So make of it what you will. I won't print megabytes of log files! If you're trying to work it out from looking at my headers, I do user a postfix header_check to remove the avamis in/out ones. :)

I tried to install the amavisd-new package that was in his directory. It tanked. Didn't have the decency to leave any errors either. It just stopped working. And on top of that, antivir can't be updated based on the current copy you get with SuSE 8.2. If you can't update the virus signatures it doesn't really do any good, now does it? This is getting frustrating. What I would like to do is have a spamfiltering email server. I was hoping I could do that with cyrus-imap but I don't see any way to get spamassassin into the loop. The only version of amavis that I was able to get working with this installation doesn't support it and the version that does support it doesn't run. All that noob bitching aside, is there any way to get spamassassins 'spamd' to work with postfix and cyrus-imap? Normally I would run it through procmail, but cyrus doesn't support that. Any suggestions?

Didn't amavis give any reason for turning tits up? Nothing in a log file? It does take quite a bit of configuring in the conf file. As for antivir, just go to their site, apply for another software key, and get hold of the latest antivir mailgate stuff. It's all free for personal use That's what I did a couple of weeks ago. Haven't yet used it though as I have f-prot installed already. That's another free one that updates iself automatically, though it's only OK for small stuff because it doesn't run as a daemon. I'm a little surprised that amavis doesn't work as it's a SuSE package. Maybe a bit of perserverence will get it going? If you set up a separate logfile in the conf maybe it will leave a few more clues to its enigmatic behaviour. :)
