I recently installed the SUSE beta for PowerPC on a PowerMac 7600/132, 48 MB of RAM. It works great and the things I wanted to compile did so with no problems. My only sticking point is that I haven't been able to set up my swap partition.
Here's what I tried:
1) Before the initial install, I partitioned the disk, setting up a 100 Meg unallocated space for swap and a 1.4 Gig space for root.
2) In the install/yast, I formatted and mounted the root drive at /. There wasn't an option to format the swap partition for swap nor an appropriate mount point for it so I went on to the next steps.
3) After install, a `df` command displayed only the root partition, not any swap (which I'd guessed would happen).
4) I read through some online info and some man pages and performed a:
`mkswap -c /dev/sdb7`
which seemed to format the drive correctly.
5) I performed a:
`swapon /dev/sdb7`
which I thought would mount the swap partition but a `df` still did not show it.
6) I added a line to /etc/fstab like the following:
/dev/sdb7 swap swap defaults 0 0
7) I rebooted and one of the startup lines mentioned something about "mounting swap partitions." (It goes by really fast)
8) I again tried a `df` and there wasn't a swap partition showing. I then tried a `mount -a` followed by a `df` but still no swap partition.
df doesn't show swap space on my machines. Run top and see what it says for swap space now.
