[opensuse] network printer problem
Time ago this problem didn't exist, any pending printing to a stopped printer was automatically resent when switching on the printer. It's no more the case. Is this a bug or a feature?? for some months I had to remove the printer in yast and reinstall it to make it work, but I just found a much better system and I added this to ther wiki (see below the link and the content). But this need to go to the cups console could we not, at least, have a yast option to do the samething? of course "rccups restart" don't do any good jdd http://en.opensuse.org/Printer_Sharing_with_Linux_clients With my openSUSE 10.3 and network printers (9100 port type), I had the following problem: * I print and notice the printer is off. I push the button and it awakes, but nothing prints. What I did: go to yast, add me to the group "lp" lauch firefox and go to http://localhost:631 then, in "printers" page, my printer is noted "stopped", but here is a button "start the printer". I clic on the button and I'm asked for a login and a passwd. I give ''my'' login and ''my'' passwd (linux one, not cups one) and voilà, the printer is started and prints. -- http://www.dodin.net http://clairedodin.voices.com/ http://www.clairedodin.com/ http://claire.dodin.net/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's no more the case. Is this a bug or a feature?? An option. What I did: go to yast, add me to the group "lp" not necessary.

Or simply from the command line as root: cupsenable <name of printer queue that is stopped> -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Its a feature! To keep the printer from stopping in the future, consider these: http://localhost:631/help/ref-cupsd-conf.html?TOPIC=References&QUERY=#ErrorPolicy http://localhost:631/help/ref-cupsd-conf.html?TOPIC=References&QUERY=#JobRetryInterval http://localhost:631/help/ref-cupsd-conf.html?TOPIC=References&QUERY=#JobRetryLimit -- Jim Barnes -- Certainly the game is rigged. this one don't exist anymore, at least on mpy system, but I see the point. What I don't see is the reason why it's default... and why it's so invisible in YaST jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://clairedodin.voices.com/ http://www.clairedodin.com/ http://claire.dodin.net/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, yes the link doesn't work directly. The target of the link is available under the References > printers.conf menu of the right sidebar. -- Jim Barnes -- Certainly the game is rigged.
