seems like openSUSE network config break the provider system configuration
Sure, the SUSE network config breaks the configuration of the provider. It's _never_ the other way round. ;)
at install time it works, but it's setup by the provider and the changes are not documented!
Ask the rpm DB which packages got instelled recently (rpm -qa --last).
nothing since august :-( it was an update done two days ago that broke the boot (and probably a kernel one, yast asked for a reboot)
Check /etc/sysconfig/network/config for a MANDATORY_DEVICES setting.
empty ("")
It looks like the providers offers to use DHCP to configure the NIC. If that's the case I suggest to use DHCP to configure the NIC.
that's what is default. However I have a fixed IP, so I can fix the IP...
Q: How can I check if a DHCP server is available from the local network?
of course it's availalble, if the interface is configured :-)
A: Call "dhcpcd-test <interface>". The dhcpcd-test helper script is available from the dhcpcd package.
If you get a response with settings fitting to your server the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 file needs:
in fact I have DEVICE='eth0' BOOTPROTO=static IPADDR=213.251.165.214 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes STARTMODE=auto and this is my IP, so it should work! well I have a test to be done, but I can't reboot now because I have a backup running. I will try to restart rcnetworks after the boot thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
