RE: [SLE] ATT:SuSE drops _smbfs_(smbmount) from Samba2.0.7!! (pur e text only)
Fromthe SuSE Samba 2.0.7 distribution:
Attention! ========== The syntax of smbmount has changed! smbmount can not be called direct anymore. It will be called by a shell script /sbin/mount.smbfs, which will be called by mount. A sample call to smbfs: mount -t smbfs -o username=uname, password=passwd //smbserv/share /destination

Hmm, how do I get away with everything on the smbfs share being owned by root, then? That's a big pain in the neck. I don't mind adding local users to /etc/sudoers to be able to mount, but smbfs used to be such a fine users-level tool. -- Andrew Diederich andrew@netdelivery.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
What plans does SuSE have for LinuxWorld in San Jose? I have gotten great value from this list the last several months, mostly just lurking. It might be interesting for some of us newbies to get a chance to put some faces with names of people who have helped us along. Hi Ed, Take care of not pressing your "Reply" button while starting new thread msgs. Sending them this way you get a lot a chances to get buried in the bulk!! even and not less when "mostly just lurking". =:`) Better post again pressing "New Msg" on your Microsoft Outlook Express, this way you can start a fresh new thread with your request. Talking about _Microsoft Outlook Express_, did you noticed such a lot of flames regarding the use of HTML (people talk about it as garbage, and instantly bury it on the _Trash_, what a pain!!). I personally prefer using Netscape Mail, because it gives much better control over what you send and in wich format. Many times our SLE friends tend to forget the difficulty, on the issue that not seeing visual difference they would not throw HTML, but also using any True Type Font do fire it. Not to talk about sending both formats as text and HTML simultaneously. HTH, Eduardo Carriles -- Ed Scott wrote:

I am kind of wondering why you are making a big deal of his Outlook mailer when Netscape has the same issues...and your using .... X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.73 [en] (Win95; U) You could just ask him to turn off HTML mail. :) * Eduardo Carriles (eduardo.carriles@teleline.es) [000713 23:38]:

Hi Benjamin, Flaming just wont help much. =:`) Good try Ben, but i got some deep knowledge about the issues, just a bit quick. =:`) Its just that i prefer to mantain my mails on a _windoze_ with Netscape, equally i could decide to do it under SuSE-Linux with KDE, but always with Netscape (Mozillize your self, you are: "User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.2i"). Aren't you the same one that sent that Wonderfull HTML message complaining about samba? If so, you really need a reality check. This guy asked a simple question. And his message wasn't in html.. On Fri, 14 Jul 2000, you wrote:

Lots :) It will be a big booth and we will show great stuff. But I cannot go into details yet. BTW: I will be on LinuxWorld, too. See you there!

It's a pain. My users do not have access to mount - cdroms and floppy drives are automounted. And I _do_ mind adding them to /etc/sudoers. Hey. It's your system. Make the mount program suid root and don't worry about security. Heck, security it just for wimps, anyway.
