Kernel compile and modprobe problems

Hi, I just compiled the suse 8.1 kernel with the "bigphysarea" patch. Now I want to do an modprobe of another module which uses functions from the bigphyarea, When I do modprobe I get a " Unresolved symbol" bgphyarea_func()... ?? I rechecked twice to see I am booting from the correct kernel and looked okay.. Is there someway I can know what patches the current kernel/symbols the current kernel is running with ? Any tips..would be really helpful Regards Vishal --

First, I know the patch will not apply cleanly to SuSE's kernels. I use it also. Did you manually go fix what doesn't apply? (less the top makefile). Then you have to also turn it on in the configuration. I don't actually use it with SuSE's kernel but with a home grown one. Mark

Hi I got some link on the 2.4.18 patch for the bigphysarea but apparently this has problems compiling into the 2.4.19 kernel on the suse 8.1. Has anyone used this patch on a 8.1. I am using gcc-3.2 for compiling the kernel. Vishal Vishal Khanna wrote:

Was my other response of no help. Yes I'm using it on 8.1. Yes I'm using it with gcc-3.2. Yes it will apply to "any" kernel if you know how to fix manually what doesn't apply without err. It's a very simple and small patch. Maybe you can explain the steps you took in a little detail if you really want some help with it. Regards Mark
