[opensuse] KDE 4.13.1 Bug fix release will be released shortly in KDE:Current
Dear openSUSE KDE Users, KDE has release the bug fix release 4.13.1. The last few days we have been preparing the packages for this bug fix release and within the next few hours the packages will become available through the KDE:Current repository. KDE 4.13.1 resolves around 50 bugs from bugs.kde.org and includes fixes to baloo, Kontact, Konqueror and dolphin. Most of the bugfixes for baloo were already delivered for openSUSE users, but this release will bring two additional features for baloo: 1) There is a new command line tool to control baloo (balooctl), with which baloo can be temporary stopped and started. 2) The desktop search module for systemsettings has been enhanced and offers now the most requested feature to switch on/off the file indexer for baloo. This would allow to have more control over baloo and removes the necessity to add $HOME to the list of excluded filesystems. A great addition. (even If I do like indexing all of home, I can see where people mounting stuff in their home directory might not. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Definitely. I installed this extended Baloo config last night and tinkered a bit with it. The control over indexing is MUCH better. If you go default Baloo, you get it as it was in the 4.13 release that raised all the kerfuffle. If you add in the extended controls for YaST, you get a on/off toggle, and MUCH finer grained control over what is filtered. For those that like the control, they now have it by the bucketload :-) C -- openSUSE 13.1 x86_64, KDE 4.13 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, there is still one area where you have to dig into the config file. If you want to index something outside of your own home directory, the Yast screen won't let you add specific directories. Like in my case, i have a directory for source code that does not sit in my home. The conversion from Nepomuk handled this for me. Which was great because there wasn't a shred of documentation on how to do that yourself. I also have yet to see what happens when I ask it to index a directory that gets mounted occasionally. What happens when its not mounted? Does Baloo cough up a lung trying to de-index a of that content, only to have to re-index it when you next mount it again? -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It does if you install the baloo_kcm package from the KDE Unstable repository. In "Desktop Settings" choose "Desktop Search Advanced" and you can add or delete directories as needed (click the "Customize Folders" button on the Folders tab). You also have the option to set File Filters and MIME Filters. This is the baloo control panel we should have had from the beginning. Hopefully it will get moved upstream and included in a not-too-distant future release. At the very least it looks to be polished and stable enough to go to KDE Extra instead of Unstable now. It makes the standard baloo control panel look cheap and nasty (IMHO). YMMV. Agreed, it should be in Extra, (or where ever Baloo is). I don't want to hook onto Unstable for that, presumably its only a short time away from being in extra. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
