[SuSE Linux] rc-file bewilderment
Hi, I've run into a problem I seem unable to solve. I just made a new install of 5.3 and was preparing to customize for my usual user id, but I can't find where all the global settings are, I can't find a /etc/bashrc, and when I make changes to ~/.basrc or .profile the changes do not seem to take effect. in confusion, Bo ---------------------------------- E-Mail: Bo Rosen <bo.rosen@home.se> Date: 29-Nov-98 Time: 20:42:34 This message was sent by XFMail ---------------------------------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I can't find a /etc/bashrc, and when I make changes to ~/.basrc or .profile the changes do not seem to take effect. There isn't an /etc/bashrc. Look in /etc/skel---where default files are kept to be installed when users are added, and read the commented .bashrc, .profile etc. P.S. if you modify .bashrc or .profile and want your changes to be recognized without logging back in type source .profile ( or source .bashrc ) at the prompt.
Hope this helps, -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
