There's a file (System.map) in the / directory, the kernel has started saying that it doesn't find it ("Can't find map file"). Is this file imperative? What is it for? Who needs it? How and were did you do that? Any hint's? I looked into /System.map and it looks to me like a number of functions and addresses. Hmm, it sure was quite some time since I did this, but the line giving a dot instead of a comma is; # plain keycode 83 = KP_Comma Not quite sure if this is what you asked for... All right then. must have been the x-windows keymaps file. (Don't know which). /System.map was recently declared to do other things. ;-) But I am still slightly interested. ;-) Jürgen -- ========================================== __ _ Juergen Braukmann mail: brauki@cityweb.de| -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Tel: 0201-743648 dk4jb@db0qs.#nrw.deu.eu| /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ==========================================_\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
Hello, With help from some people on this list, and with understanding more about Linux, I have managed to get a connection to the Internet. I can now either dial with WvDial or Kppp successfully, now I want to do this on-demand so that Win95/WinNT and Linux clients can use this machine as the gateway to the Net. How do I do this? I understand about setting up my clients to use the Linux box as the default gateway, but the on-demand dialing is not understood. I have PPP and SLIP compiled into the kernel. I want to set all this up so that my Linux box is a Firewall. Thanks. Im in the process of doing the same thing and its not really a small task. You need Ip masgurading so If you have a lan connected via ethernet and can ping between machines.... ftp telnet etc then when you activate ipmasq when one machine dials up their all connected. One machine has to be the gateway and or firewall... adjusting security settings etc. Again more than one messages is going to give you <grin> I will however recommend the book Im currently reading The Linux Network By Fred Butzen and Chris Hilton isbn 1- 55828 -589 - x Its a great book and very personally written It addresses this topic of ipmasq firewals etc Its also discussed in the suse manual. Im very satisfied with this book though and cant recommend it strongly enough to those interested in this subject. Im about 1/2 way through also the "dial on demand " is done by a program/daemon called diald which is in the suse distrib see you rob - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I'm sure you're mixing up /System.map with the keytables. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

It's only needed to decode kernel panics. klogd does this for you. Normally you do not need this file.
