[SuSE Linux] Motorolla PNP modem and Linux 5.2
Hello, Well after countless rebootin, reading the F& manual and blind trying, I have SuSE Linux 5.2 working on my system, including X windows system. Now, if I could get my modem to work under it. <g> Using YaST I setup my modem, but it does not seem to work. Neither minicom nor Seyon, not to mention pppd seemt to be able to get it. My modem is a Motorola VoiceSurfer 56K PnP. Anyone can suggest something? Thanks. -- Katt Freyson Montreal, Canada Any order that can be misunderstood has been misunderstood. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
have you tried type minicom press alt + z m to initalise modem d to dialing dir arrow key to manual at the bottom of the screen enter the number then back to dial Ive noticed the modem sound is turned off so *possibly* your not hearing it dial it should dial then beep when connected wait for your login on your isp then you should be in a shell on your isp of course this may or may not work... Im no expert ;-) oh I see you have a plug & play modem. That may be a problem. In that case you may want to consult your modem docs so as to remove the PnP setting (one of the jumpers has to be changed) rob - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Yes, I've tried that, nothing doing. I've plugged my speakers into the speaker out of the modem. Also, one time I got the message modem locked. Katt - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

did you check the jumpers on the modem to disable pnp?
Also, one time I got the message modem locked.
usually that means the modem is being used....?possibly logout and log back on? rob - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I keep reading all this stuff about internal modems won't work and only external modems work with Linux. I have never used anything but an internal modem. The question should be if it is a standard modem or a winmodem that only Windoze can use. A standard internal or external modem works just fine. On the the other hand, a winmodem requires window driver software.
If is an internal modem you up a creek with out a paddle for its a winmode that will not work. been there done that an will not work. if its an external then it should work. I like my motorolla 56k for windows an have a usr 33.6 for linux.

If is an internal modem you up a creek with out a paddle for its a winmode that will not work. been there done that an will not work. if its an external then it should work. I like my motorolla 56k for windows an have a usr 33.6 for linux. <BR> <BR> I should have clarified that, the motorolla 56k internal is a winmodem an will not work with linux. not sure if that is his or now. he just just motorolla unless i missed read the msg. I tried one an it will not work. thats why i added the old usr 33.6 for linux. <BR>
