Restarting the ssh daemon should do the trick: #rcsshd restart You are correct that this is not the normal behavior. Make sure you aren't running a program like screen, which lets you disconnect and later reconnect to a tty session. Any program like this will keep the session open. You might also want to look at this automatic logout mechanism. I was not aware of such a mechanism being built into ssh. I know that a session will time out if you disconnect the network for more than a few mins, but not just because of an idle session. If you are using some sort of bash logout thing, that could be causing this issue. When I have logins via SSH ( using PuTTy ) and the connection goes away because the connection was idle for too long, sometimes the login information is never cleared and the 'who' command continues to display that login even though that user is no longer logged in. What is the problem and how do I clear those logins out? Thanks for the info Lowell. I did as you suggested and the "ghost" logins still remained. Don't know what to do about them now. -Jim-
