Internet, she is asked "Application FooBizBan is attempting to access the Internet. Do you wish to allow this?"
If she recognizes the application as one she's just started, she knows to allow it.
but if this app is filled with a virus, she allows a virus... Most people have never any virus, and have daily questions like this, so yes, most of the users say yes. and if even they say no, they can't run the computer. *this* is the problem: how can one know an application is clean? I use a good free virus scan, when it says "here is a virus", usually I trust it. Last time I had a virus... t'was more than 10 years ago (I have to say that's just the moment I switched most of my work on Linux :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

True, which is why she also uses up-to-date virus protection as well.

Such a firewall application could use checksums on the application as a way of monitoring if the application that was approved has been modified in some way. I think (but don't know for sure) that this is what ZoneAlarm does.

"Up-to-date virus protection", no matter how you look at it, is *reactive*. Not worth a crud. Trolling is not an effective means of discussion, JB2. Let's try to stick to the topic at hand. Jim -- Jim Henderson Please keep on-topic replies on the list so everyone benefits -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You meant to write 'I have no definitive answer for that because it makes too much sense, so instead I will call you a troll because it's the best I can do at the moment'. There, fixed it for you. Now, if you want to continue with the discussion that I simply got in on with everyone else who is also in on, fine, but if you have to whine like this, you've lost already and show what an ass you can simply be. My addition(s) to this discussion are as relevant as anyone elses have been.
