Hello, I just tried with my TomTom Go 910 with openSUSE 10.3. Works fine, the TomTom asks if I want to connect to the computer and I'm able to see my disk and its contents. Hi .. yes i can see it as a storage device ok but it is things like the various updates from the tomtom site that are done via the tomtom home system that i want to get going , I have been in contact with TomTom they "say" they have a Linux version of TomTom Home in the pipeline i will believe it when i see it have maileds them again today so will wait and see what transpires . Considering that they actually use Linux in the device it should not bee too difficult and they also have an MAC version for OSX10.xxx then a linux version shouldbe easy meat , I believe it to be more of a political thing as normal that a difficulty in writing the software .. Properly written, porting from OSX to Linux should be trivial, Especially compared to porting from Windows to OSX or vice-versa. Keep on this: It never hurts to apply pressure to the sales staff, by mentioning that if they DID produce a Linux version, your place of work might be much more likely to purchase TomTom products for delivery vehicles or other uses. In the workplace, I always play off Sun and HP against each other when I don't see some support that I need in a product. "Oh well... I guess in our next technology upgrade, we're going to have to migrate these machines to <competitor>." That always gets the sales staff buzzing.... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oh i intend to as you have stated above they distribute a MAC version so these cant be that much between MAC and Linux no i got the bit between my teth now . I have just had another reply from them .. just saying "As I said there is no release date for any Linux compatible software. The only comaptible systems are Mac and Windows. The only way that you are going to be abble to update etc. is to use a computer with one of these systems installed." so watch this space .. Pete anyone fancy reverse engineering the MAC version ... :-) -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. Some time ago our company purchased a TomTom. In the documentation there was a statement that anyone needing info about 'interoparability' needed to contact them. So maybe there is no need the reverse engineer. I don't know about the license though. I believe (absolutely not certain !) the EU mandates this. Hi .. Yes saw that bit and contacted them the results of whic is in the previous mails they do claim to be working on an tomtom home type system for Linux but unless they are reminded now and then it is the sort of thing that will get shoved to the back burner the API is published but i am no programmer and c / c++ fries whats left of the brain these days (too much time spent runnig thru rally stages ) .. we will see what transpires give a few days and i will prod them again ..
