Hi All! This problem was submitted to SuSE support over a month ago and they have not come very far. I posted a message about the problems I was having with Suse support and people suggested to try the list. So, here I am. During the installation of Suse 9.2, when I use the standard installation, Yast seems to freeze, but switching to VC4, I see what appears to be repeated messages scrolling across the screen. Ctrl-S does not appear to stop the output, so I cannot read what it says. If I used "Installation - Safe Settings", Yast seems to stop as soon as it has completed the creation of the filesystem. However, only if I use either ext3fs or reiserfs. If I used ext2fs it installs correctly. During the installation I did not use the default options for the keyboard language, time zone and the partitioning options. The default was to completely delete the partition /dev/hdg1 and install a single root filesystem there. Instead, I told Yast to install root on /dev/hda12. During the installation with the reiserfs I tried to mount /dev/hda9 (a data FS on my working system) in order to store various log files and other info. However, the mount command hung. I tried to run fdisk -l to see what partitions it sees. The fdisk command hung as well. Running ps -ef I could see that there were actually two running mount commands. One looked like this: root 4184 4183 1 13:06 tty1 00:00:01 /bin/mount -t reiserfs /dev/ hda12 /mnt/ I though that maybe my mount command had caused problems, so I rebooted and tried the installation again. It hung as well. Running ps -ef again, I saw the same mount command. It seems that for whatever reason the mount is hanging and thus Yast cannot continue. I can provide the y2log, as well as the output of dmesg and ps, if people are interested. Since I'm not a software expert I tend to look at things from the hardware perspective. My first thought is you have an awful lot of hardware to get working during a new installation. I generally wouldn't install more than 2 disc drives and CD/DVD drive until after I had a bootable OS installed. Have you tried installing with only /dev/hda attached? Conversely, have you tried to install with a different drive connected as /dev/hda or using a different root partition on hda? Also you may wish to try different cables to your drive. Ribbon cables, especially the high speed ones, are a lot less reliable than you'd think they are. Jeff
