Not at all - the latest generation LTO _is_ expensive, but then you go with the 2nd or 3rd. Besides, tape backups are really only for a business context.
I looked some time ago, and what I could find was prohibitive or expensive.
Now... heh, the word "LTO" or "tape" is not found on the place I shop. Well, tape finds adhesive tape and others.
If you don't find "LTO", yeah, then look for another shop.
It ends up in what I said: we (home users) can only use another hard disk,
Well, in my usual on-line shop - www.pcp.ch - caters to home and business both: LTO8 drives - 5000 and up, cartridges are 180-200. LTO7 drives - 4000 and up, cartridges are 85-90. LTO6 drives - 2000 and up, cartridges are 5 for 180. LTO5 drives - 1500 and up, cartridges are 5 for 150 For home use, I would look for a 2nd hand drive and cartridges (unopened) on ebay. Plenty available. On my local ebay (ricardo.ch), I see LTO4 drives at 200, new cartridges at 25 apiece. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (25.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Basically, there is nothing else around here. I checked another shop, nothing. Small unknown places perhaps, on request. Google finds none near me. I see one HP LTO3 on Amazon for 1800€, and the technical specs say nothing. For me, they would have to be SATA or USB3. <https://www.amazon.es/Grabadora-cintas-HP-Ultrium-Internal/dp/B00EX29H4G> At those absurdly high prices I don't even consider the idea. Which is why shops do not have them, I guess. What do they use, gold instead of iron?

I've never used ebay. Anyway, my new huge computer box has a single 5¼ bay which is already used by the blueray writer. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)
