Well i took the plunge and upgraded to .5.4. I was quite happy when i found out you no longer had to compile it yourself, but it's probably not that difficult. Anyway I downloaded apt 5.4 cnc7, and the corresponding devel.and synaptic All installed fine, but when i ran apt-get... and synaptic i received this error ... the method driver /usr/lib/apt/ftp could not be found.
