Download mplayer from mplayerhq.hu and ccompile that from the source. Then using the mencoder that comes with that you should be able to rip dvds. here's small assistance how to rip. http://tc.chem.vu.nl/~fleig/timo/MP/encoding.html P_s

Or for those that want RPMs, go to http://packman.links2linux.de. Philipp

I would also recommend installing "checkinstall". It's on the SuSE disk. This let's you compile from source but converts it to an rpm (more or less) so that the rpm data base is aware of it (rpm/yast doesn't see source installed programs). Basically it's: ./configure (with any needed path/pointers/flags) make Then instead of make install you type checkinstall. This will ask you a few basic questions such as install in default locations, and other ancillary information. Then it installs the "source" but makes an RPM of the programs at the same time. As I stated, this is usefull to keep the rpm database aware of programs/libs/devel packages. This is further useful in the case when you try to install a program with certain dependencies. If you install a sourced package to meet the dependencies it may not be recognized by the other package that depends on it because it refers to the rpm database, and being a source package the rpm database is not aware of it.... Hence it tells you that package X can't be installed because package Y isn't there and X depends on Y... But you know Y is there because you installed it - RPM is blind to it however. Also uninstalling packages in rpm is a simple process of "rpm -e Y". Unlike uninstalling source packages which means knowing and/or tracking down all that the package has installed and manually deleting the files... Not often an easy task. I use vobcopy from http://lpn.rnbhq.org/projects/c/c.shtml to rip the dvds to the hard drive. You also have to have libdvdcss from http://www.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.8/ Cheers, Glenn
