I get a segfault when I want to install the Beta2 on Yast. It first halts at creating device nodes and the indicator at the bottom is at about 60%. Before I file a bugreport, what else should be known. What info should I get? houghi -- Accordion, n.: A bagpipe with pleats.

That did not work. The log in /var/log/Yast2 that I copied to a drive I mounted was named ?y2start.log and was 0 bytes The problem happens each single time. I had no problem with Beta1 (exept for the known bugs) houghi -- Your life would be very empty if you had nothing to regret.

Read the bug reporting FAQ again ;-) When someone asks for "YaST logs", please save *all* files in /var/log/YaST2 using tar czf y2logs.tgz /var/log/YaST2 While installation, you can also press Shift-F8 and save the logs anywhere - but not on the ramdisk please ;-)
The problem happens each single time. I had no problem with Beta1 (exept for the known bugs)
Well, so you are able to reproduce the problem - and to get the full YaST logs ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- 2.-5.9.2005: Weinfest in Insheim Bei der Landjugend: Liquid, AH-Band und Deafen Goblins Mehr Infos: www.Landjugend-Insheim.de

That command gives a segfault. ls gives a segfault. What I was able to do is cp. That resulted in a file I can only see in mc and there it tells me on the info: File: y2start.log (It looks like ?y2start.log in the dir) Location: 0h:0h Mode: -------- (0000) Links: 0 Ownder: root/root Size: 0 (0 blocks) Created: Jan 1 1970 Modified: Jan 1 1970 Accessed: Jan 1 1970 Filesystem /mnt Type: ext2 When I do an ls on the copied log, I get: root@penne : ls /bin/ls: y2start.log: Input/output error

I am not really installing at that moment. I am waiting for the screen to come up, so I can start installing or do whatever. This is after the the coice of Booting from HD, installing, mem test and so on. When you are able to press F2 to go to the rest, but before the next screen where you select the language and after that the way of instalation and so on.

Unfortunatly, I can't. houghi -- If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; but if you really make them think they'll hate you.

Please do a fsck - this error looks like your filesystem could be broken. (BTW, for my statistics: which filesystem do you use?) Also let memtest86 (from DVD boot menu) run several hours to check if your RAM is ok. That would be ext2, because reiser is not mountabble at that moment. No problems there. If you like I can use another filesystem. I just mount /dev/hdf1 as /mnt and then copy /var/log/ to /mnt I am unable to do an ls when the error is shown. At that moment no disks are normally accisible, because all should be in RAM, expect the ext2 partition I have made and mounted. The other files ARE available. I can copy the rest of the log files.

Thought of that as well and saw no problem. It ran for several hours. I tried the network instalation and that worked without a problem. I also have downloaded cd1 a second time from a different server with the same result. houghi -- Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months. -- Oscar Wilde

Yast segfaults while it is booting and going to the instalation. No choce has been made yet if I want an update or a new install. houghi -- Somewhere, just out of sight, the unicorns are gathering.

houghi opensuse is only the web site (wiki), so use 10.0 jdd
