[opensuse] Firefox: Updater wants to update to 3.5.8 from 3.6
In openSuse 11.1, I have Firefox 3.6 installed from the mozilla Build Service repo (I need to sync with Weave). Now the updater applet wants to upgrade me to the Update repo's 3.5.8 version (with all the dependent xulrunners and stuff). In Yast2 though, the "install software" program does not think there is anything to be upgraded for either Firefox or it's dependencies. (well, except for the theme-oxygen, where it thinks that 1.4.92-5.1 should replace 1.4.92-10.1). both repos have priority 99. I would not like to give up on the update applet, as it usually is quite handy. Any idea? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Why would you not give higher priority to optional repos? I set my Mozilla repos to around 80 or so. I can't remember being "updated" to any older version of any Mozilla product. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Which brings up a point of confusion... Higher priority implies higher numbers. BZZZZT! WRONG, but thanks for playing. I wish Yast would clearly state on the screen that lower means higher. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. Highest priority often means the first thing one encounters. In an ordered sequence of numbers, 0 and 1 usually come before 99 & 1024, since normally one counts up 0-based. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." But when looking at a stack the top item gets priority. Without experimentation, how are we to know which concept was in the designers mind at the time? -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. Stack? You mean like a paper cup dispenser stack, or the horizontal stack at the Post Office counter? :-)

Probably you're asking on the wrong list. Try Factory, or: https://features.opensuse.org/ -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." By reading the fabulous manpage of zypper for example on an openSUSE 11.2 system. -p, --priority <positive-integer> Set priority of the repository. Priority of 1 is the highest, the higher the number the lower the priority. Default priority is 99. Packages from repositories with higher priority will be preferred even in case there is a higher installable version available in the repository with a lower priority. That was my understanding as well, and therefore BuildService with firefox 3.6 should take priority, but it didn't... Anyway, it didn't last week. Now that I took another look, the updater has removed it from the list... Consider the vendor, I think the priority is to keep it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
