There is a utility named "pin" that does just that. On my 9.3 system I get: <quote> vankan@pavilion:~> pin g77 grepping /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz ... please wait pin 0.30 - package info for g77 ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** no rpm named g77 installed ------------------------------------------------------------------ maybe just a typo? what about this: gcc-g77-3.3.5-5 maybe better restart with another option? grepping anyway ... ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** zgrep g77 /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz ------------------------------------------------------------------ ---> ./DVD1/suse/i586/gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm ---> ./DVD1/suse/x86_64/gcc-g77-32bit-9.3-7.x86_64.rpm ---> ./DVD1/suse/x86_64/gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.x86_64.rpm . . . </quote> where the vertical dots stand for a truckload of less important info. The other thing to bear in mind is that according to previous conversations on this list, g77 no longer exists. It has been replaced by gfortran. So searching the archive and/or web for more details might be useful depending what version of Suse you're running.
