[SuSE Linux] Another one with a printer prob
Hi Y'all, I feel sorta stupid throwing this out to the list considering the amount of help that's been offered here over the past 7-8 months, but..... I can't get my HP LJet 4L to work with my re-installed 5.3. Been thru SuSE's Printer Check List and, ping local host = ok ping 'hostname' = ok "lpc up all" lists ascii, lp and raw: printing enabled; daemon started "modprobe lp" (as root) produces no results that I can see in xterm updated aps filter (v1.5) installed via YaST gs installed via YaST device selected in YaST is lp1 (single pc w/1 printer; no network) (nothing happened when I set it lp0. But, no "polling" comment for lp0 either) /var/log/messages shows "kernel: lp1 @ 0X0378 (polling) and it also does not show lpd being started during bootup??? If I enter "lpd" from an xterm, /messages sez: lpd restarted tixlpq shows files in the queue, and notes the printer is "offline?" Since it's worked before with both 5.2 and 5.3 I'm stymied. No changes have been made to BIOS or hardware. Just a reformat and reinstall on Satureday.... Is there a way to check and see if I've selected the right LP#? Where do I confirm that lpd is run at bootup? Or do I?
