Update Killed Dialup
I updated on the 28th and have been without E-mail access since. (I am using my office pc) What is happening is my modem dials the ISP and then disconnects. Here is the message: Kernel supports ppp alright. In parent: pppd pid 1298 Counld't find interface ppp0: No such device It was ppp that died pppd exited with return value 19 I tried uninstalling ppp, kppp, winternet, wvdial and a couple of other things, then rebooted, then reinstalled them, all using YaST but that didn't work. I tested the modem under windows and sadly M$ still works fine. A sad day when Linux is less stable than M$. ;-( Help? Please? Thanks! doc

A couple of questions: Have you tried wvdial and does it work? Did you set up your modem in Yast? Also do you have the kppp file in /etc/ppp/peers/ Paul T.
A couple of questions: Have you tried wvdial and does it work?
Yes.
Did you set up your modem in Yast?
Yes.
Also do you have the kppp file in /etc/ppp/peers/
That is an interesting question. When this error first appeared it complained about the absence of a kppp file or folder in that location. I created a folder and a kppp.txt file (since the error was M$-like in it's lack of useful information). Neither the kppp file or folder solved the problem. What, specifically, should the file contain and how was it supposed to be created in the first place? (I presume it was there before since kppp has been working fine.) Thanks! doc

In the peers directory, just select edit/create-new/text file. Once you have the file kppp, edit it with kwrite or whatever and put: 'plugin passwordfd.so' in the file (without the quotes). Save it and that is all this file contains. Once you have that, try kppp again. If you get any error numbers, check man pppd and see if what kind of error you are getting, if any. Luck Paul T.
