lost access to drive /dev/hda & hdb
I seem to have lost access to 4 partitions on /dev/hda (2 vfat, 2 ext2) and my ls120 floppy drive on /dev/hdb. This has happed twice to my recollection. I solved it the first time with a system coldboot. I would suspect the controller failing except I do not understand access returning with a coldboot. If the controller was failing, wouldn't Yast2 be unable to read drive presence in the partitioner? Has anyone successfully installed gphoto2 into 7.3.I have the files(from the www site). In the instructions tell that rpm will not work. a) make rpm (This is not working properly, as of 2001-11-19. We're working on a fix) If you're running a RPM based system (e.g. Redhat Linux or SuSE Linux), you can build RPM packages and install these. The packages will be located in packaging/rpm/RPMS/. How do I build rpm packages? cheers -- --no clever signature--

I have gphoto-2.0beta3-fr1.i386.rpm which installed OK. I haven't looked for a later version. -- Pat Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org 7:40pm up 9 days, 2:55, 6 users, load average: 0.05, 0.12, 0.15

I thought I would get at least ONE response, but ..... I seem to have found/solved my own problem. Some time ago I purchased a Western Digital 100gb drive from Sam's Club for $219.00us with a $100 rebate. I thought a good price, $119 for 100gig. The first hard drive that I purchased cost $400 and was a Seagate 30mb and PC-DOS 2.3 (I believe) couldn't handle all of the space. Still a step up from the CPM single sided floppies I had been using. Seems that 7500rpm WD drives generate some warmth. Enough that the IBM 5400rpm 30gb drive in the drive bay immediately above the WD 100gb didn't care for the warm and tender relationship. For lack of drive bay space, the WD 100gb is now hanging loose in the bottom of the tower in front of a fan. I hope far enough away that the other drive is not affected. -- Pat Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org
