Evolultion will not remove mail from server
Using SuSE 8.2 with evolution 1.2, evolution will not remove mail from the server. I have the leave mail on server box UNchecked in the receive options. This is also with evolution 1.4. In 8.0 it works. Anyone have a clue as to why evolution will not remove mail from the server in 8.2? Art

Without knowing what mail server you're accessing, or indeed, what protocol, we're not likely to be able to help. Not heard of anyone else with this prob, or at least noone's reported it in my packages, and I can tell you it "works for me" accessing qpopper over POP3, and Exchange 5.5 over IMAP. If you can come up with more useful information, let us know, or post a bug report at http://bugzilla.ximian.com -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
I think the server is qmail from what I can tell from the headers. SuSE is postfix, but I see nothing there. This is a default SuSE 8.2 install. What does not make sense to me is that it works on my laptop which is also 8.2. The only thing that could be related is that Evolution 1.4, from usr-local-bin, would not install with Yast, I had to install with rpm -ivh. Is there a way to save the home evolution folder with the emails, do a reinstall so that evolution reinstalls everything, then get back only the emails without other config files? This is my wife's computer and she would have a fit if I lost her emails. Art On Sun, 2003-06-22 at 23:21, James Ogley wrote:

This is what I wanted to know, QMail will be the software running on the SMTP port, that you use to send mail, what type of server are you retrieving your mails from?

I doubt you'll need to reinstall, try just moving the evolution directory out of the way, starting Evolution and setting up the mail account again then you could either copy the local directory back into the new evolution directory, or you could import the various mbox files. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
The server is our hosted website, sporthorse-america.com, which also has email. Art On Mon, 2003-06-23 at 07:03, James Ogley wrote:

Yes, and how do you access it in Evolution? -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
I access is via POP is all I know, anyhow, I renamed the evolution directory under home then restarted it. It still had the email account info, but downloaded, then downloaded again and it worked. I imported the mbox file from the evolution.bak, local, and got the old emails back. Everything seems to be working now. Thanks for the help. Still don't understand how it got that way or what went wrong. Art On Mon, 2003-06-23 at 07:49, James Ogley wrote:

Rename ~/evolution (e.g. to ~/evolution.bak) Do whatever you wish to your Evolution installation. Set up Evolution again for your user account, then close it. Copy the emails from ~/evolution.bak to the new ~/evolution - I'm not at a Linux box right now, but for POP3 mail you'll find it in something like ~/evolution/local/mail/Inbox (plus any other mail folders you've got - you may need to create the folders first then copy the contents). Start Evolution - your mail should all be there (and if not, you've got a copy of it to try again with or import into another mail client). -- Geoff Beaumont Geoff@stormhammer.com
