[opensuse] Is There a (Non-Enterprise) Commercial SuSE Linux 10.2 Product?
... And if so, where is it advertised / described / sold? The Novell site seems to strongly emphasize SLES and SLED, but eventually I found http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/, which mentions only 10.1. But given the proximity of the 10.2 release, I don't understand why it (10.2) is not mentioned there. Amazon.com seems to know nothing of it, either. Can we buy a commercial SuSE Linux 10.2? As i've mentioned before, when 10.1 was released, it took the novell webfools^h^h^h^h^hmaster several weeks to get that info up on the website... Given the "stability" of 10.1 right after release, that gave way to much speculation ;) bye, MH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's not an answer to the question I asked. I asked about a commercial release. You know, a box, a single (dual-layer) DVD, a manual, a full complement of open-source _and_ non-OSS software.

I don't know what the local jargon "EMEA" stands for, and I don't know what definition is applied to "business remains as is [for retail shops..etc]" but I can telly you that it is *NOT* the same since version 10.0. Prior to 10.10 I could go to 'local' (Australian) Linux shops and find the option to *pre-order* SuSE at least 1 month in advance of release - which I always did. Now, there is no damn sign of the latest Suse- and the release is next week. I don't know what the local jargon "EMEA" stands for
It's not local jargon.... EMEA = Europe, Middle East, Africa. You also have NA or NORAM for North America, LATAM for Latin America, and APAC for Asia Pacific. It's a fairly standard for companies that have offices worldwide to refer to these geographical regions in this way.

Here in the NL, my usual supplier has it up on the website already http://www.comcol.nl/detail/sicxlc01.htm#60717 And I can pre-order it.... I checked around, and several other computer shops I deal with will be carrying the new boxes. They are hoping they'll be in stock next week some time. So, at least in some areas the pre-order thing is working. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So that's what it means. Thanks for that. But I still stand by my remark that it is local jargon. I just hope that the world doesn't end up going into mobile phone text mode :-) .

I've seen/used this jargon for years because I have worked in multinationals since 1994... all of which divided the company up into the geographical regions... so anyone who was working in Europe was in the EMEA division etc. Granted.. it is more popularly used in Europe over anywhere else.
Thank goodness for that! And I am envious that you have the luxury of pre-ordering it in Holland. But 61 Euros? That's expensive, isn't it?
61 Euros is about the same price it's been for the last couple releases. It is expensive, but then again... everything here is overpriced... so much so it's often more economical to drive to Belgium or Germany to go shopping :-( I used to do that all the time when I lived near the Belgian border. Never bought SUSE in Belgium though... get it from Comcol most of the time. They deliver the day they get the boxes in stock. Great company... usually on release day, there is someone banging on my door at about 18:00 with a nice present for me :-) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hi!

pre-ordering it in Holland. But 61 Euros? That's expensive, isn't it?
Yeah, it is expensive. And I guess that is one of the reasons why people who actually pay for SUSE expect things like multimedia to work. (Drop the printed manuals all that expensive stuff (make it available separately), just include the CD and quick setup A4 + DVD & MP3 player licences! Should make it less expensive than it is now :-) -- HG. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The word from the horse's mouth (one of the horses' mouths, anyway) is that it's going into production now and should reach retailers "shelves" (some of those shelves being virtual, presumably) by the mid-December time frame. From today's posting to openSUSE-Announce: -==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==- openSUSE 10.2 will be offered as boxed product in Europe through retail as usual. In North America the box will be available through http://www.shopnovell.com. Due to production lead time first boxes will show up on shelves and onlineshops mid of December. -==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==-
