[SuSE Linux] usr x2 external modem
Does anyone have a working script using this modem (pap auth preffered)? I had a script for a bad 33.6 modem, and got this one, but I couldn't use my old script (the old pppd would die unexpectedly).it wasn't a problem with the at commands, because i can dial just fine with just ATDT using a setup tool, but not my script. if anyone has any ideas/solutions, they would be warmly welcomed. Are you using kppp or ezppp? have you removed "lock" from the the etc/ppp/options file? If you are interested here is a really good init string for an x2 AT&F&M4&D2&C1&M5=M0 Otherwise the same chat script that you used for your 33.6 should work. In linux a modem is a modem, everything being the same, external or internal. hope I helped Kristin Farren Aaron Seelye wrote:

Sorry, but I forgot that I had the source to a setup program (I wrote the mail after a long day at work, when i wasn't in the mood the think:) ). The answer was as simple as typing /usr/sbin/pppd with the correct settings specified. Thank you to those of you who tried to help. for those who need help getting that commandline ppp up, I used the program found at <A HREF="http://www.tux.org/~claudio"><A HREF="http://www.tux.org/~claudio</A">http://www.tux.org/~claudio</A</A>> . - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I used to this script for my old ISP that supported X2 modems. It's a simple shell script that runs "pppd" and does the login using "chat". ----- #!/bin/sh # A script to dial The Grid and establish an X2 PPP modem connection. # # Shell variable with a wildcard match that we can use to see if we # already have a connection with The Grid. All IP addresses start # with 209.xxx.xxx.xxx # RMTIP="209.*" # If PPP link exists, the exit /sbin/ifconfig | grep $RMTIP > /dev/null && exit 0 # Other shell variables # Set LOCIP to "0.0.0.0" if your IP address is dynamically assigned LOCIP="0.0.0.0" PHONE="555-1212" DEVICE="/dev/modem" SPEED="38400" PPP_LOGINNAME="<USER>" PPP_PASSWORD="<PASSWORD>" /usr/sbin/pppd connect "/usr/sbin/chat \ ABORT \"NO CARRIER\" ABORT BUSY ABORT \"NO DIALTONE\" ABORT \"VOICE\" \ \"\" ATZ OK AT\&F1E1M1V1X4S0=0S28=0\&C1\&H1\&R2\&N0\&U0 OK ATDT$PHONE CONNECT \"\" \ ogin:--ogin: $PPP_LOGINNAME word: $PPP_PASSWORD" \ crtscts modem noipdefault defaultroute $DEVICE $SPEED #end script Enjoy, Tony -- Anthony.Schlemmer@gte.net - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
