[opensuse] icmp redirects being ignored (12.3)
I have just upgraded a desktop box from 11.4 to 12.3 - I was prepared to have to reinstall from scratch, but it appears to have worked very well! Sofar the only problem seems to be that the box is ignoring ICMP redirects. I've checked the settings: cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/*/accept_redirects 1 1 1 1 I've also checked the routing table shortly after having received a redirect, and the redirect isn't there. The firewall is inactive. I must be missing something? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I know this sounds like something of a network corner case, but it's a real problem because we have a transparent webcache. All external web-requests are diverted to the squid cache with an ICMP redirect, so getting this issue sorted out is important. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What about the content of /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/*/send_redirects -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It shouldn't matter much on the receiving machine, but they are also all '1'. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.8°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Work-around: install kernel 3.4.6-2.10.1 from openSUSE 12.2. Still a very critical bug though. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.8°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Why not from Kernel:Stable repo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, I knew the kernel from 12.2 worked, so that was obviously the first thing to try. I'll try Kernel:Stable too, thanks. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.0°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Tried kernel 3.8.6-2-desktop, no luck. ICMP redirects still being ignored. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.2°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Please consider to move the defect report from Component Networking to Kernel. Then it might be more likely to get the attention of a kernel developer. Cheers, Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team + SUSE Labs SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Good idea, somebody already did I think. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
You should post directly to opensuse-kernel. No subscription needed. Ask to be kept in cc. Per Jessen <per@computer.org> wrote:
