Re: [SLE] 10.1 installer broken (in VMware)?

That's ok, you have to load the necessary IDE modules. Just go to the module loading dialog before starting the install.
Uhm, which of those?! ;-) piix and mptspi are already loaded. Shouldn't the kernel detect which modules to load? I'm just wondering why the installation does not work with 10.1 while it did with 10.0 and even a pretty old 8.0 in a VM. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

The '*' doesn't mean it's loaded. It means you _should_ load it. (I know it's irritating - will be better in 10.2).

Yup, I'm wondering, too. Steffen -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Ok, so I loaded the recommended modules and now the installation does work! *Thank you!* But it's still a mystery why it doesn't work automatically! -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Ok, here's the story. vmware emulates a _CD_ drive, but you attach a _DVD_ iso. The installer notices the DVD iso and constructs a DVD url for the package manager. If the package manager sees a DVD url, it will look only at DVD drives - but vmware only emulates a CD drive. -> No packages. Should already be fixed in 10.2. So, if you notice this again - complain again. :-) Steffen -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
