SV: [SLE] Running Winblows VNC server?
Applications will run, but generally slower. Remember that VNC in essence does a screen dump, even if it tries to do "partial screen dumps" when an application updates its windows. -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: Alexander Daniloff [mailto:alex@daniloff.com] Skickat: den 4 januari 2000 16:47 Till: suse-linux-e@suse.com Kopia: plug@northwest.com Ämne: [SLE] Running Winblows VNC server? Hello Linux folks! Is somebody of you actually using VNC with Linux and Winblows NT? Could you please share your experience. I have to use some Winblows M$ office applications for my job. I don't want to create win32 partition on my Linux box HD and use emulator like vine and so on. I want to setup Winblows based M$ office application server for my Linux box using VNC protocol. After I visited VNC web site http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/winvnc.html I assumed that in general I can run Winblows applications with installed VNC viewer on Linux box and with installed VNC server on Winblows box. My questions are: 1. Will Winblows M$ Office97 run noticeably slower on Linux box over my 100Mb network connection? 2. Will I be able to run graphic intensive applications on Linux box from Winblows VNC server? For example games, pictures, java applets and so on. If not, may be you can tell me a better solution? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
