I've also got some help from a person at SuSE and I'm currently trying out the suggestions he made ... but perhaps someone else have a few suggestions so I can solve my problem (yes, I want to get my network up and running as soon as possible ... this machine is supposed to be the center of it until a can get another Linux machine to take it's role 8-) Anyway, here is the facts: + The problem: I can't get the OS to recognize my network card. + I'm a newbie to Linux, I've used Unix on-and-off for the last 15-18 years but I've never done any installation of a complete system only single programs (but before the arrival of packages ... only tar archives). So I'm trying to get up to speed on Linux while installing it. + I got a computer as "package deal" which means that I have no idea about the exact hardware. It's a Fujitsu Scaleo and if I look at the vendors site I can find my computer (or at least something that is close to it) but there is no information about a network card there (they seem to be delivered without a network card). + I have previously tried to install Debian (but have erased the disk several times since then) and then the network card worked but we had other problems instead so I abandoned Debian. + When running the SuSE installation everything seems fine except that it doesn't seem to recognize my network card or modem (but I haven't tried figuring that out yet). + I tried playing around but since I don't know what I doing I didn't succeed 8-) + I tried commands like lspci and hwinfo, etc and the card seems to identify itself as 22: PCI 0a.0: 0200 Ethernet controller [Created at pci.63] Vendor: 1106 "VIA Technologies, Inc." Model: 3065 "?" SubVendor: 1186 "D-Link System Inc" SubDevice: 1401 "?" Revision: 0x42 I/O Ports: 0xcc00-??? (rw) Memory Range: 0xdfffff00-??? (rw,non-prefetchable) Memory Range: 0xdffe0000-??? (ro,disabled) IRQ: 10 (10159 events)
+ I sent a question earlier and got some help (but perhaps I didn't understand all of it 8-) so I think I will manage to complete everything when I find what module I should use (Thank you zentara) ... but as I said earlier I'm a newbie 8-) + The person at SuSE (thanks) who has helped suggested that I should use modprobe and try the different modules that are available ... (I tried the Via-Rhine module but it doesn't recognize the card) And this is the where I stand now. If anyone can help me with some more info etc I would be very grateful.
jem -- Jan Erik Moström mailto:jem@mostrom.pp.se Free Elektron http://www.mostrom.pp.se/folk/jem/

Have you tried to configure card as a D-Link from within Yast (Yast1) ? And readup on your possible NIC and it's parameters in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/networking (if you installed 2.2.16-SuSE kernel sources from development packages) BB, Arjen
