Hi I have HP XE3 laptop with pre-installed win-98 and 128Mb ram. I partitioned the 20GB HD to take SuSE 7.3. After successfull installation, starting the StarOffice installation it hangs. Also StarOffice 6.0 installation hangs. I believe it is Java-related... First the keyboard hangs when in the first StarOffice screen I click on "next", then after few seconds, mouse dies too, and I have to do a cold-reset. This does not happen with SuSE 7.2... Installation goes like a dream. So, is there a know issue with 7.3 Java-packages? How could I "debug" this? Jaska.
Well, I'm not sure what you would need with Java for using an office package, but as far as OpenOffice/StarOffice 6.0 are concerned..they are not build with Java support yet. I read in a FAQ some months ago that they have a routine in the install script for it..but if you try to install with it then it has a 50-70% failure rate on installing the whole suite. Try doing the newest OpenOffice install w/ out telling it anything about Java. Hi Okay... So there is something strange with 7.3 setup, because I can't get any further than the first screen by clicking on the "next" button on the welcome screen... Does your HP laptop use an S3 Savage graphics card. My Toshiba laptop does and StarOffice would not work with SuSE 7.3, although it did work with SuSE 7.2. SuSE support said to check the SDB and there the answer lay. Solution Edit or create the file /etc/profile.local with an editor and add the following line: export SAL_DO_NOT_USE_INVERT50=true Save this change and check the entry by logging in again and entering: echo $SAL_DO_NOT_USE_INVERT50 This solution worked with the Toshiba laptop and now StarOffice 5.2 and 6Beta will play nice with SuSE 7.3.
