how about disconnecting the D drive, running BIOS autodetect to make sure the C drive is recognized, then going ahead with the install?

Have a look at the Jumpers on the C disk and make sure jumpers are set to PRIMARY MASTER, the, make sure the ribbon cable is correctly attached to the MIDDLE of ribbon plug?
