[opensuse] windows 10 virtualbox guest os
Was just wondering if anyone has successfully installed windows 10 as a guest os in virtualbox. I have windows 7 running quite happily and I have received notification that I can upgrade to windows 10. Initial attempts failed with windows reporting cpu not compatible. After an update this is now saying that the virtualbox graphics adapter is not compatible. As I am running opensuse 13.2 as host os, I was wondering if anyone has managed a successful windows 10 guest update and if so did they have to tweak anything (in opensuse or virtualbox) in order to get it to work. Thanks. Eddie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

yes, you have to choose windows 8.1 in the os type in virtualbox and all is ok I just did :-) jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I chose Windows 10, not 8.1.
I didn't have this choice... jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Did you use the openSUSE or original Oracle VM? I used the Oracle, as the openSUSE didn't work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

opensuse one, may be older, so the 8.1 setup went well jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You guys are aware you can no longer review updates before they are installed in Win10? Beginning in win10 (as part of the license), the option to "Download updates, but let me choose when to install them?" is a thing of the past. All updates are installed regardless whether you want them or not... (anybody remember the Bing toolbar pushed as an update?) -- David C. and? we still need to test the cohabitation of w10 and various openSUSE versions. I use w10 only twice a year (and each time I'm blocked for many hours by updates, Grrrr) jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No and... That little gem is not widely known. For those considering "Do I reserve my copy of 10?", that is something to take into consideration. Agreed, all cohabitation testing needs doing, just save a pristine copy of your 7 install :-) -- David C. I am running windows 7 (64) Home Premium and I had changed the os type to windows 10 (64). Anyway, I tried changing the os type to windows 8.1 (64) and get the same incompatibility problem. Display The VM display is set to 128MB Video Memory. Scale factor 100% System The motherboard base memory is 2GB with I/O APIC enabled. The processor 2 CPU with execution cap 100% Acceleration is set to KVM with Hardware Virtualization VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging enabled. Virtualbox itself is version 5, 0.2_SUSE r102095 Is there anything I've missed? Are you running a different version of Virtualbox (whether younger or older)? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have W10 in a virtualbox on 13.1 and it works fine. I also have a W7 VM, but I haven't tried updating (I refuse to say "upgrading") it to W10. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Same for me. But I could upgrade Windows7 pro to WIndows10 pro, and it works fine for me. What I did, is; 1.Download iso file from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO 2. Burn it to DVD-R media. 3. Start VirtualBox (5.0.2), then Windows 7. 4. Insert DVD-R within Windows 7. 5. Open the DVD-R and click 'start.ex'. Then Update starts, it ends with 'update of Win 7 to Win 10'. That's all. PS. After updating, don't forget to uninstall guest addttions, then shoutdown the Windows 10. Then edit the settins of Windows 10 (especially shared folder setting). And start Windows 10, then install guest addtions. You can set the resolution, and use the shared folder. No need to burn a DVD. VirtualBox can mount an ISO. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is what I've done and it is in the process of installing Windows 10. Thanks everyone. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
