RE: [SLE] Desktop Problems after upgrading to KDE 3.1.3
I followed the latest "how-to" post for upgrading. I downloaded aAll the files into a directory, changed installation source, and let Yast2 do an upgrade (only installed packages). When it finished I logged out of KDE and restarted it. Or rather, tried to. All "startx" would do is bring up FVWM! Then when I finally got KDE to start, the root desktop was totally hosed. My user desktop was almost salvagable, but had the missing virtual desktops, susewatcher, and some other misc. stuff. As far as I could tell, susewatcher was gone completely - I did a search for It and came up empty. Thanks for the info on adding "Pager". I would have never guessed that that was for the virtual desktops. What I finally did was use Yast2 to completely uninstall KDE. Then I renamed my .kde, .kderc, .mcop and .mcoprc files/directories. I then renamed Desktop to OldDesktop. I also renamed .DCOPserver_computername__0. Then I started FVWM and called up Yast2 and reinstalled KDE. Now I'm finally back to something like normal. I think I'll wait for 9.0....:) Thanks again, Mike ----------------------------------------------------- Cleary_Mike@emc.com ----------------------------------------------------- Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that. -----Original Message----- From: Franklin Maurer [mailto:nebbish@sprynet.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 03, 2003 11:53 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Desktop Problems after upgrading to KDE 3.1.3 On Wednesday 03 September 2003 11:20 am, John wrote:

Any ideas how to get this back?
I don't have any help for you, but I can also agree that KDE 3.1.3 has a few screwy things wrong with it. I'm still waiting and hoping someone has an answer for me to let me know how to get it *back* to the version that installed from the DVD.

Have you search the archives for posts dealing with upgrading to 3.1.3? It's been awhile since I did it, but I had to remove the .kde dir, .mcop(?) and jump through a few other hoops to get it to work. Sorry but I have a bad memory and got rid of my notes. Try searching the archives ... http://www.netsys.com/suse-linux-e/ Have you tried using Yast > software > install remove to revert back? For the multiple desktops, can you right click on the panel > panel menu > add
