After installing postgreSQL and playing with it locally I tried to connect with postgres server from another host. No matter what I try I always get the same result: Connection to database 'template1' failed. User authentication failed. I'm using: psql template1 -h empire. I created a user in the server with 500 as a UID. This user should be the "owner" of a new database. The user created has a Unix UID of 500 in the workstation and postmaster is started with the -i option (standard start from suse). What am I doing wrong? Or is postgresql intended to be used only locally? Thanks in advance!
