I hope someone here can "see" where the problem is with a 9.0 install and
XCDRoast. The log is below. I've run out of ideas. SCSI seems to be running,
(cdrecord -scanbus does give the drive with SCSI emmulation), and I've set
permissions on cdrecord, etc.
Thanks!
Fred

Which cdrecord did you set permissions on? xcdroast uses the one in /usr/X11R6/lib/xcdroast-0.98/bin The error message means that you don't have permissions on either the scsi device (/dev/sr* or /dev/scd*) or the generic scsi interface (/dev/sg*). You need read/write permissions on both to be able to use cdrecord

does xcdroast work as root ?? if so I would look for a permission problem: ls -la /dev/pg0 else: :/ # modprobe paride :/ # modprobe epat :/ # modprobe pg -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

No, did doesn't. If it did, I'd be all set and would know how to fix it. :) Thanks, Fred -- "...Linux, MS-DOS, and Windows XP (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)."

8.2 here, so I can't be too precise.

Ok, so you are not root.
cdrecord: Permission denied. Cannot open '/dev/pg0'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
That's the problem: no permission. Ok, do the following: Open an xterm, and issue 'sux -' to get yourself root permission on X. Start xcdroast for a while. Enter setup or configuration (writing from memory). There is a tab or button somewhere where you can enable xcdroast to run as root, or as user: set it to allow running as user. Finally, define which users are allowed to use xcdroast. Save and exit xcdroast, and open another one as normal user from another xterm. If it works now, exit sux, if not, repeat. It's all documented. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
