Hi I recently started using GNOME on SUSE 9.0. The usr-local-bin project really helps the transition (thanks James Ogley!). Let's start with some doubts. First is about the kde applets like suse-plugger and YOU. Is there anyway to use them in the gnome notification area? If I open suse-plugger an icon outside the notification area appears (as most of kde applications). I know it works the same but it doesn't look nice. I also have a curiosity... in kde there is the kdesu that works really well (store password, deals with the X permissions). I searched google and I read some opinions about doing something similar in gnome. There is the gnomesu but it is incomplete and not fully integrated with gnome. I also noticed that gnome team is reluctant about "gnomesu's" like applications... Does anybody know what are the gnome ideas for this matter? It is really essencial for a desktop enviroment. Appreciate any idea and comments... Thanks to all Gustavo

Same story here (and thanks James Ogley). I'd like to add a quick extra question, if that's all right. I read on this list, IIRC, that SuSE's updates for Gnome 2.4 are borked if you run Evolution. But I don't run Evolution, prefering Thunderbird for email. Is it therefore safe to upgrade from the rubber turnip 2.2 series to the SuSE 2.4 ones, or would this be inviting trouble perhaps because there are other borkings in them thar SuSE updates? :) Fish

Mark, Best to stick with one or the other. I am running the SuSE Gnome 2.4 stuff without problems at the moment, but I have also not used any of James' builds this time too. Mostly to test as I ran the rubber turnip files while using 8.2 version. If you attempt to mix & match, you could be in for the bug hunt of your life, when things start to fail on you! :o) Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...
