RE:[SLE] System slow after upgrade to 512 Mb ram
i've noticed that no swap file is used...the system uses only ram memory.. could it be that?

Have you tried taking the memory out to see if it is realy that. Also are you sure you have used the right memory.
yes i do it. the memory is oki..i have win on the same machine and it works fine... i can just see that the swap it is not used... David Chapman wrote:

There is a difference in swap not being used, and not being available. If it is available it will normally see at least some usage. You can easily check by typing 'mount' at the prompt if you have a swap partition mounted. You can also check swap usage with top. If you see no swap mounted, you can check /etc/fstab to make sure a swap entry is there. If it's there but is for some reason not mounted, you can start it with 'swap on'. Otherwise you have to create either a swap partition or swap file if that's easier for you (for example if your partitions are full). top will also show you if your extra memory is recognized by the kernel. I have 512meg ram and swap stays at 0% used. I guess it may get used some times but I have never noticed it. However windows will use a swap file long before the ram is used, not sure of details but with 300+ meg of ram free swap will still be working hard. It could be your ram is not working correctly, but windows has not noticed because it is swapping anyway. On Sunday 12 October 2003 7:30 pm, js wrote:
