[opensuse] most frequently used applications in top part of KDE4 application launcher
Hello: I would like to have the list of the most frequently used applications instead of recently used applications in KDE4 application launcher (start menu, set to classic style). I see there is a favorites menu but launching application from there requires a more complex, two-way mouse navigation, easy to lose focus. Starting applications from the top part of the launcher easier and requires only one way mouse movement. Shortly, I want favorites to be placed where recently used applications are now. I found the very same question on kde forum: Frequently used applications over recently used, kmenu setti https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=118656 According to it it is not possible (at least was not eight months ago) in KDE 4 to have most frequently used applications at the top part of the menu list. One of the answers says: "Unfortunately due to the way the system has bee designed it is not possible to switch it to storing frequently used applications instead of recently used ones." This was a one click checkmark setting in KDE3, very easy to change. No doubt KDE4 _shines_. Interesting topic. In KDE3, most frequently used was the default (in openSUSE at least). I've always changed my installations to most recently used. A search of most frequently used on KDE's tracker turns up no summary that looks anything like a request for a most frequently used option like you want. You might try filing a bug there just to see if the Forum was right about the possibility to provide the option. You could try replacing KDE4 with KDE3. KDE3 is still available for 13.1. Another option is TDE (Trinity, a continuation fork of KDE3). You also could create a custom menu folder in KDE4 with copies of the apps you know are most often used. It would require at least one extra click compared to KDE3, but it could save some compared to what you have now. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
