I must be doing something dumb, but, I can't figure out what. I recently installed Linux 9.2. When I try to send email using kmail, I get a message that says that the system, can't connect to my mail server. It also says that the transport protocol used was 'jgraddy'. That happens to be my user name on the mail server. The transport protocol should be 'smtp'. I can receive email without a problem. My account is set up almost exactly as I have had it on Linux 9.0 for over a year. I have never had a problem there. The only difference (that I am aware of) in the setups is on the "Security" tab. Under 9.0 "Encryption" I had "None" and under "Authentication Method", I had "Plain". On 9.2, since there is no "None" under "Encryption, I have "SSL". I have "Plain" under "Authentication Method". I have the ports set to 25 for sending and 110 for receiving. Thanks, John

Look in Settings > configure kmail > Network page > Sending tab The 'protocol' in the error message refers to the what you have set up here (I have several set up and I use different ones for different identities/connection methods). Could be you need to edit your setup here. Hope that helps Doug

Thanks for the reply. That was the problem. In my 9.0 setup, I had my username & mail server name in the first two entries in the send setup. That was probably wrong, but, it never caused a problem. With 9.2 it definitely causes a problem. All is well now. I appreciate your help. John

...
Let the software work for you: - Menu: KMail -> Settings -> Configure KMail - Network Category - Receiving Tab - Select Account from the Incoming AccountS list - Click Modify - Extras Tab - Click the "Check What the Server Supports" At this point, the receiving account should be configured with all the server-specific details. Naturally, you must enter your personal information (account name, password, e.g.) and operational preferences.
Thanks, John
