Hi I had this problem with SuSE 7.3 and I find it again with 9.1 It seems that board ASUS P4T-E has problems with a lot (not only SuSE) of linux distributions, and the floppy controllers are not loaded. This ends up with inability to use or access /dev/fd0. (when machine is booting, you get a "floppy: no controllers found" message). In 7.3, I think I was able to make this work by first installing SuSE using a floppy disk as boot device, and after installation is finished, reinstalling Lilo to hard disk (I dont remember if that is what I did). I tried this with 9.1, and other things, with no luck. I finally got some light into this, and I found that may be some patches can be applied to the floppy module. Another solution (the one I want to try) mentions that you should use the floppy module outside the kernel (not compiled into it). My Question is: How do you use the floppy module in 9.1? Can this be done with the precompiled kernel installed from the beginning? Do I have to install sources and recompile the whole kernel? If yes, which kernel sources do I have to use to have the exact same kernel installed by SuSE install? (I dont want to loose any functionality of the original kernel. I would only need to use the exernal floppy module to solve the problem I mention). Any particular documentation for this? thanks. -------------------------------------------------------- Juan Francisco Torres
