Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] getting a gui ppp dialup

I've found WvDial to be my answer to dialing up our ISP. My wife could care less how it is that she gets her email, just so long as she does. I ran KDE up thru v1.0, and then discovered XFce x-window manager and haven't looked back since. KDE is gone, and with it the GUI dialer.
WvDial probes (my word) you modem to identify it, and set an optimized string in its config file. In XFce I have a "dial-up" icon/button which simply calls "wvdial". I made a second one that calls: "killall wvdial". With these two buttons either of us can dial up from our respective logged in desktops, do our net thing, and shut down the dialer. No one ever sees any of the dialup action.
You can find WvDial at: <A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/"><A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/</A">http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/ You will also find the co-author Avery P. to be extremely helpful should you encounter any problems.
The only tweaking I had to do was change the permissions on ttyS0 to "users" to allow each of us to dial out instead of just root.
